    Tommy Cancer Update

Tommy's halfway through his chemo, so he had a PET scan last week to see how the treatment is progressing, and we got some super good news - there was no detectable cancer visible in the scan.

He still has five more treatments to go through (he just got back from chemo an hour ago), and will have a final PET scan, but so far it's looking well. His last treatment is the day before Thanksgiving.

Thanks to everyone who's reached out. :)

SHACKNEWS.COM SETS NEW ALL-TIME HIGH FOR MONTHLY UNIQUE VISITORS

I am very proud to announce that Shacknews had more people visit the website in May 2018 than in any month in our 22 year history. I want to thank everyone on the team for coming into work everyday and grinding to do it for Shacknews. This is a great moment for the company and it is just the beginning.

Monthly unique visitors at Shacknews.com are up 305% since the bottom in 2014. This new record passes the previous all-time high set in 2012. Today's milestone is the culmination of many of our editorial efforts and I am grateful for all the support from the Shacknews staff.

A special thanks to everyone here on the Chatty for your support.

    DO IT FOR SHACKNEWS!!!

Shack, it’s done. The Europe tour is officially over.

    http://chattypics.com/files/iPhoneUpload_ouzwtlr59y.jpg

Am I drinking champagne at 10:30 in the morning? Fuck yes I am. I’m god damned exhausted. This little cup of bubbly sleep sauce is gonna carry me down to nap time on this business class flight. I feel fancy. Paris to New York. Finally....finally.

This has been the most exhausting and possibly the most stressful month of my entire life. But it’s also been one of the most intensely rewarding experiences I can remember having. The love out in the world is real, and good, kind-hearted people are everywhere. That’s the truth. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to do this for a living and I want to thank you guys and gals for your support along the way! The Shack will always be my favorite internet home.

See you on the other side of the pond.

So I have some good news!!!!!

Met with my Oncologist the other day to review a recent PET scan. The scan shows no detectable cancer!!!! She compared it with a scan from a few months ago, and that scan lit up like a Christmas tree with cancer all along my spine and hips and spleen. So I asked her, what would you call this, or what would you consider me, and she said I was in full remission!!! I cried like a baby in her office!

I still have a lot of stuff to go through. I'm weak as hell. The immunotherapy attacked my pancreas which makes me a diabetic (hopefully not permanent). Dealing with insulin sucks!!!

Thank you guys for the support, and the kind messages and contributing to the GoFundMe. It really means a lot. This was the scariest period of my life and I know a few of you are going through it too, and I really hope the best for you.

Just told my conservative Trump-loving Fox News watching Aussie dad I’m trans. His reaction is not what I expected, he gave me lots of love and support and said he just wants me to be happy. Also I’m now telling the shack. Been on HRT for about 3 months and I’ve never felt better. My chronic stomach pain has disapeared and just been feeling super healthy and super positive - so much so I wanted to share it.

Anyway, you guys are my friends and I feel like we’re a close enough kinda family that I feel comfortable just letting it out there.

Yay chatty! I’m gonna go play some Mass Effect now.

    A Short Essay on Moderation

In response to the recent robust discussion, where several comments made regarding moderators not nuking comments which were perceived to be outside the community guidelines, we (the mod team) felt it was a good time to provide a small overview on moderation and a reminder.

First, no single mod can say "I don't like this person, lets ban them", and then they are banned.

We may bring issues we notice in the chatty and say "Hey team, I see this Shacker as an issue due to X, Y and Z reasons. Am I being petty here, do you all see these things as problematic as I do?". All the moderation team will take a look, and we all weigh in on it. There is no rubber stamp from the rest of the mod team when this happens. There are Shackers posting right now in the chatty who've been under review, and the majority of the mod team did not feel they were outside the guidelines to the point they were banned.

Second, unless the Shacker does something especially egregious, we give multiple chances and opportunities for the Shacker to revise the behavior that's problematic.

Sometimes this might entail an escalating ban level, in order to give some time for reflection. Additionally, we have sent personal shackmessage from one of the moderation team providing direct feedback on the issues encountered and a path to ensure they continue to be a part of the community. If the Shacker does not adjust in response to these methods, that indicates to the moderation team that they do not respect the community and this leads to a permaban.

Finally, the moderation team is very small now. There are only 8 moderators here, and one lead mod/owner. We all have real lives & jobs outside of Shacknews. We try to read/review as much as we can, but there will be times that we miss stuff. But we have a solution (thanks to electroly!) to try and fill in the gaps - if you see something that you feel needs moderation review, please send a shackmessage to Duke Nuked with your concern. This will post your shackmessage immediately to the Shackmoderator Slack (yes we have a Slack!). Whoever is online will see the notice and it will get reviewed asap. Sending concerns to specific mods is still OK if you want to discuss something, but responses can be delayed, so for immediate concerns use Duke Nuked

    Sincerely Your Mod Team:

the man with the briefcase, bitchesbecrazy, dognose, EvilDolemite, morgin, ninjase, redfive, serpico74, and your's truly hirez

PS. we dont want shitty people here who say shitty stuff on purpose to cause people to get upset. That's just crazy talk.

PPS. if this posts gets 100+ infs/unfs the man with the briefcase promised to double the moderator team's salary!
