Based on info from the Game Informer reveal of Portal 2, one aspect includes using special paint that gives unique physical properties to surfaces (eg rocket jumping, speed bursts, etc). Someone comments that it reminded them of "Tag: the Power of Paint", a Digipen Student project that won the IGF Student entry last year.
Here's the page about the game: https://www.digipen.edu/studentprojects/tag/
Now, this is speculation, but I've tracked two of the four main students on the project and they claim Valve employment. The other two have private Facebook profiles but what's public certainly suggests Valve employment as well.
Thus, I fully suspect that, as with the Nabocular Drop before, the team from Tag was brought into Valve, with their work added to Portal 2. (Which is super cool of Valve) Which means if you want a taste of Portal 2 now, you can grab Tag from the link above to play around with it.
