Brawly platformer Megabyte Punch coming in August

If you like a little bam!, bif!, pow! and character customisation in your retro platformers, have a gander at Megabyte Punch. Described by developer Reptile Games as a "mash-up" of Super Smash Bros., Mega Man and Custom Robo, it's coming to PC, Mac and Linux on August 16 for $15.

Second Life dev buys digital distributor Desura

In its ongoing missions to be known as anything other than "the company that made the game for unconventional virtual reality cybersex," Second Life developer Linden Lab has bought digital distribution platform Desura. It may not be a huge name, but the site is awfully popular with lesser-known indie developers as it's entirely open, which fits in with Linden quite nicely.

Wasteland 2 signs physical distribution deal with Deep Silver

One big drive in the recent crowdfunding bonanza has been a sentiment of "publishers can go rot", but publishers do also provide valuable services beyond developers' area of expertise. Wasteland 2 developer inXile today announced it's signed a distribution deal with publisher Deep Silver for the post-apocalyptic RPG's physical release and backer rewards.

World of Warcraft 'exploring' in-game purchases

Blizzard has confirmed that it's "exploring" in-game microtransactions for World of Warcraft, after an XP booster mentioning an in-game store was discovered in the latest test patch. It's not yet clear exactly what else it'll sell, and whether this is a global move or simply for regions friendlier to microtransactions.

StarCraft II opens up Arcade games to demo

As apparently it's Freedom Day or something somewhere, Blizzard is celebrating with a little freedom of its own. Until Monday, all the StarCraft II custom maps Blizzard has singled out to be Featured in the Arcade will be playable by everyone who only has the demo.
