Xbox Live's "Games with Gold" program is offering Gears of War and Shoot Many Robots in December.
Gears of War ran its course on 360, but it could continue its life into the next generation if it got more expansive fiction and possibly a new studio, according to Microsoft's Phil Spencer.
Gears of War: Judgment is getting another DLC pack. The "Lost Relics" pack is launching in June, and will include a new gametype, four new maps, and assorted weapon and armor skins.
The Gears of War movie adaptation has been taken up by producer Scott Stuber (Battleship, Ted). Stuber will reportedly be developing a script with Epic Games, and shopping the movie to studios.
The next Gears of War: Judgment map pack is titled "Call to Arms." It will be coming April 23 for Season Pass holders, or April 30 for everyone else.
Two console-exclusive "of War" prequels released last month, as both Microsoft and Sony attempt to milk their biggest franchises one more time before the next generation begins. And sales are likely to fall short of both franchises' last numbered entries.
Why delay the inevitable? A stay of execution means nothing when you know they're baying for your blood and will extract it from with blade and boot. So, Lancers sharpened, Epic Games has released the free 'Haven' DLC a few days earlier than planned. The pack brings back the Execution multiplayer mode, along with new map Haven.
Gears of War: Judgment has a bit of leftover code on the disc from prior Gears games, letting users access the Warzone multiplayer mode.
Epic Games and People Can Fly have given the traditional Gears of War multiplayer formula somewhat of an overhaul. The result is something that feels familiar, yet fresh and enjoyable, even if there's a fresh stench of DLC in the air.
Judgment is a superfluous and unnecessary addition to the Gears franchise. It fails to live up to the standard set by the previous three games with some pesky AI issues, limited level design, and characters that don't resonate nearly as well as those from the previous games.
