Alien: Isolation preview: extra terrifying

The Creative Assembly wasn't kidding when they said they made a smarter Xenomorph. In fact, after going hands-on with Alien: Isolation at GDC 2014, it's almost safe to say that the studio might have actually made the alien too smart. And that's bad news for players hoping to survive.

Alien: Isolation trailer extols unscripted AI

"As soon as the player can predict a pattern in the Alien, it stops being scary," Alien: Isolation designer Gary Napper says in a new video developer diary. "Depending on cautious players are, we've seen encounters ... last well over 30 minutes in some cases, and this just can't be done with scripted behavior." Gosh. The video also touches on how the creature looks, moves, and hunts dear young Amanda Ripley.

Total War: Rome II 'Caesar in Gaul' DLC campaign announced

After releasing a few minor DLC packs for Total War: Rome II, The Creative Assembly is about ready to deliver something more substantial. The developer today announced a new DLC campaign pack named 'Caesar in Gaul,' retelling that time Caesar picked a fight with the proto-Frenchmen. Arriving next week, it'll add a new campaign map with new provinces, factions, generals, units, and more.

Total War: Rome II invading Linux and living rooms

Total War is one of the PC series which seemed destined to stay on PC with mice and keyboards, too big and complex to make work well on controllers. Not any longer. Developer The Creative Assembly has been won over by Valve's Steam Controller, enough to bring Total War: Rome II to SteamOS and, by extension, all of Linux.
