Total War: Rome 2 DLC adds blood & gore

"Boo!" cries the severed head as it's violently flung to the ground. It is Halloween, after all. In the horrifying spirit of the season, The Creative Assembly has released new DLC for Total War: Rome II which adds buckets of blood and mortifying dismemberments to the strategy game. But oh, how commercialised Halloween is: it'll cost you $2.99.

Total War: Rome II gameplay shows AI skirmish

The Creative Assembly has shown off a fair bit of Total War: Rome II's campaign already, but what will you play when that's all done and dusted? Its AI skirmish mode is the focus of a new-ish nine-minute gameplay walkthrough, showing Macedonian forces totally warring against an AI opponent set to Very Hard difficulty.

Sega teased a little of Total War: Rome 2's Battle of the Teutoburg Forest mission in February, and today came back with a solid 10 minutes of narrated actual gameplay. It's an ambush rather than a straight-up army vs. army battle, so come watch doggies and horsies chasing the Romans.

Total War: Arena is free-to-play RTS-MOBA-y thing

While the rise of the MOBA has been a fascinating one, it's a shame that so few bandwagon-hoppers have tried to do anything particularly new with it. Or come up with a better name. The Creative Assembly today threw its hat in the general direction of the battle arena, announcing Total War: Arena, which does try something new. The free-to-play PC game will see 10v10 matches where each player controls three units.

Total War: Rome 2 trailer shows Teutonburg Forest battle

Total War: Rome 2 likes to show off big battles, and the newest trailer shows off one of the most decisive battles of the Roman era. The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in Germania in 9AD saw more than 15,000 Roman troops routed by Germanic tribes led by a former vassal of Rome.

Total War dev making Warhammer Fantasy games

Multiple Warhammer fantasy games are in the pipeline at Total War developer The Creative Assembly, Sega announced today. The publisher has scooped the rights to Games Workshop's classic magical elves-and-ratmen tabletop wargame and set up a new team at TCA to bring them to our computers, planning for the first game to hit after 2013.

Viking: Battle for Asgard hitting PC next week

A curious bloody blast from The Creative Assembly's past is coming to PC next week. The Total War series creator's second console game, the hack-and-slash Viking: Battle for Asgard from back in 2008, is unexpectedly getting a very late downloadable release, seemingly jazzed up a bit.
