Dean 'Rocket' Hall took the stage at EGX Rezzed to deliver the upcoming 2014 roadmap for DayZ, including improved zombie behaviors, new weapons and animals, vehicles, and Steam Workshop support.
The third and final chapter of Arma 3's campaign will launch next Thursday, March 20, developer Bohemia announced today. 'Win' will see the Mediterranean mixup escalating further, into some of that good jolly war fun we all know and enjoy. It'll also bring three new vehicles for everyone to play with in sandbox modes.
Expect the pace of DayZ's development to pick up, as Bohemia has bunged a whole load of new people to the team. Creator Dean 'Rocket' Hall revealed this in his latest dev blog post, also confirming that the team shall start focusing on expanding survival elements. First up is a cooking system, giving survivors more culinary options than guzzling cold beans from a can cut open with a kitchen knife.
Dean 'Rocket' Hall may have plans to leave Bohemia Interactive and set up his own studio to explore multiplayer survival games, but the DayZ creator has reassured that he'll remain there for as long as he's strictly "needed." He imagines that in a year the zombie apocalypse sim will be fairly complete, and it'll be fine for him to leave and chase his dreams.
Bohemia is still working on Arma 3
Flying a helicopter is an important aspect of Arma 3, so Bohemia Interactive is assisting would-be pilots with a helpful video from Shack Tactical leader Dslyecxi.
Bohemia Interactive has released the second part of Arma 3's East Wind campaign today, with the final chapter slated to drop in March.
"So much for the death of PC Gaming," DayZ creator Dean Hall has scoffed, announcing that the zombie apocalypse survival sim's standalone version--which is still only in alpha--has now sold one million copies, less than a month after launching on Steam Early Access. Yes, sales were at 875,000 copies last week so this isn't a huge surprise, but one million is a big round number, and that is a fun jibe from Hall.
After a long wait, the alpha version of DayZ finally launched via Steam Early Access on December 16. While it's still very much in alpha, evidently that hasn't been too much of a discouragement for survival fans, as Bohemia Maruk Spanel has revealed the game's sold 875,000 copies over the past three weeks. Players better be prepared for a bumpy ride, though, as Spanel says DayZ's not expected to hit beta status "sooner than the end of 2014."
The DayZ standalone is now available through Steam Early Access. Just remember, the game is in alpha and it's definitely going to look and feel like it.
