Apparently, Square Enix's secrecy regarding the upcoming Final Fantasy action game was due to the company's decision to move to next-gen.

Square Enix has put on a fine display of attractive violence in a combat-oriented gameplay trailer Final Fantasy XV, The Video Game Formerly Known As Final Fantasy XIII Versus. How does the more action-y real-time combat look in a core FF game rather than a spin-off. Well, it's pretty at the very least.

"We would like to announce today that we are porting Final Fantasy XV to Xbox One as well."

Square Enix shocked E3 audiences by revealing that Final Fantasy Versus XIII has not died.

"There has to be a way to get through," Lightning mutters as she approaches a locked gate in the 'E3 Demo Gameplay' trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Then she presses a button and it opens. Yes, while it's still a short cutty-snippy 'gameplay' trailer, at least it's more honest than most about what you'll actually do in the game.

Good news: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII has a firm release date! Bad news: it's February 11, 2014; a mite later than the fall 2013 launch Square Enix had planned. Good news: Squeenix has dropped a new trailer and screenshots (admittedly low-res ones) for the RPG sequel-sequel ahead of its showing at E3 next week. On balance: pleasant news!

Final Fantasy XIV has been going though a facelift, and fans of the MMO will finally be able to get a look at the new product when A Realm Reborn...

Final Fantasy 8 is coming to the PC, at least in Japan. Square Enix announced the port and released the first few screenshots.

Square Enix released the first screenshots from the X-2 remaster, and they look impressive.

The relaunch of Final Fantasy XIV will occur this summer, after a third round of beta testing includes the PS3 and cross-platform play in June.
