I've been enjoying a PC gaming Renaissance of sorts, collecting games from the EGS store, STEAM, and developers like Ubisoft, all who are trying to gain new followers for their platforms by enticing gamers with FREE STUFF!
So I grabbed a free copy of WATCH DOGS 2 from UPLAY earlier this summer but didn't rush to play it. I'd already finished the game twice on the PS4.
Now that its sequel WATCH DOGS LEGION is out, I thought it might be fun to revisit (possibly) my favourite Ubisoft open world game, but for the first time in glorious 4K resolution on a PC, and using the free high res texture pack.
As reported by David Craddock, WATCH DOGS 2 had lower sales but higher critical acclaim, which always bugged me. Ubisoft at the time were taking hits from jaded gamers who cried "JANK!" and I feel like Watch Dogs 2 got lost in the shuffle.
The Shacknews review score for Watch Dogs 2 (back in 2016) was a very respectable 8 out of 10.
But one of the review's only 2 "cons" — "Seamless multiplayer" wasn't operational at the time of writing — has since become a big part of the WATCH DOGS 2 experience.
I could go on for paragraphs about how much I love this game, but YouTuber "Whitelight" has done a terrific retrospective on (maybe) Ubi's most underrated open world game.
