PWRϟUP: AC/DC's 17th record is "their best album in 30 years" says Rolling Stone

They could have just called it PWRϟCHRDS, AM I RITE?

Back in 2018, members of AC/DC were photographed together having a smoke outside of the same recording studio (in Vancouver) they've used for two decades, and so the rumours of a new album began.

RELEASED TODAY (FRIDAY NOVEMBER 13TH) is PWRϟUP, AC/DC's 17th studio album; a record that Rolling Stone says is "their best album in 30 years."

POWER UP CD ARTWORK

FULL DISCLOSURE

My entire AC/DC collection comprises one CD album: 1990's "The Razor's Edge", which would be the last time I actually cared about an AC/DC album release. But in a crazy, uncertain year like 2020, sometimes we need something very familiar.

It's not exactly progressive, let's put it that way. But it does have a few *firsts*, so that's something, right?

  • First album since 1985's Fly on the Wall to not include a song with the word "rock" in the title.

  • First album since 1988's Blow Up Your Video to not include a title track.

  • First time they've ever used the words "MIST" and "DEMON" in song titles.

  • Features the return Brian Johnson (vocals), Phil Rudd (drums) and Cliff Williams (bass), all of whom left AC/DC before, during, or after the last record's run ("Rock or Bust").

  • It's also the band's first album since the death of beloved co-founder, and rhythm guitarist, Malcolm Young in 2017.

GAME ON!

My friends and I had a blast this morning coming up with possible AC/DC album titles, songs or lyrics (because it's so easy) BUT using only ATARI 2600 GAME TITLES!

PITFALL

PIT-FALL! She got me fallin', fallin'

PIT-FALLLLL

I'm gonna find her treasures

And avoid her scorpion sting

BATTLE ZONE

BATTLEEEEE-ZONE!

Our love's a BATTLE ZONE

She's coming at me in 3D.

And I can't see that our love's a BATTTTTLE ZONE!

Rumor has it that Angus and Brian got into a major fight over the introduction of a minor chord.

I *was* hoping for a bit more with this album. A little more thought to it. But it's not bad! I've listened to it 3 times so far this morning.

I think track #4 ("Through The Mists Of Time") is my favourite so far, but we'll see.

More? It’s AC/DC and it’s music that Malcolm helped write. Not being more is their wheelhouse. :)

Well yeah, but an album like "The Razor's Edge" is (IMHO) next-level AC/DC, whereas everything since has been cookie-cutter AC/DC.

            And that's fine! I'm not a diehard.

The only ac/dc album that matters is back in black in my world. Cause it’s fucking perfect.

Yeah I had it on CD decades ago, and I'll have to get another copy sometime.

But I've heard all of those songs soooo much (especially on the radio) I've never wanted to own them again.

You rank Powerage and Let There Be Rock—2 of the 3 records “before Back In Black—higher than The Razor’s Edge? Hmmm...

I'm actually listening to it right now. It's surprisingly...AC/DC?

Like it doesn't sound tired or past its expiration date. Feels closer to the early 80s sound.

Also another little CORTEX error: When I copy and share the link for my article (I wanted to share it with my friends on Facebook in MESSENGER) the preview of my article shows a photo of LOLA and the message "Page not found" even though the article exists and the URL is correct.

CORTEX is also cutting off my TITLE. the "best album in 30 years" is cut off on the live article but it still shows the full heading in the CORTEXT editor. I'm gonna trim it up, but would be great to know how long the TITLE can be.

Yeah but I don't trust Mick Jagger's taste in music any more. Lemme know when The Moody Blues rates the album.
