Overwatch Loot Box Drop Rate Has Not Changed, Blizzard Says
Jeff Kaplan nixes claims that players are getting significantly less skins and legendaries.
Overwatch is currently celebrating its Year of the Rooster event, and while many players continue to enjoy the game and accept whatever loot boxes they get, a growing number of players have complained that the drop rates for goodies had significantly changed from previous events. Not so, Blizzard said.
Game Director Jeff Kaplan dropped into a rather long thread on the topic on the official forums to say the status quo has been maintained. "The drop rates for Summer Games, Halloween Terror, Winter Wonderland and Year of the Rooster are all the same," he told players. The assurance has calmed the storm somewhat, but those if have been unlucky with the RNG still are not convinced.
A couple sites have done a few rather unscientific surveys on the issue. A Forbes writer purchased 100 boxes and found the drop rates about the same as the Winter Wonderland event from December. PCGamesN watched boxes opened by various game streamers, noting that drops varied from event to event. Blizzard has kept mum on what the drop rate exactly is, so everything is just a matter of speculation outside of Kaplan's word.
If you haven't been on top of the loot drops for the new event, we outlined them in a video when the event went live late last month.
