Alien: Covenant is Getting the VR Treatment Alien: Isolation Deserved
The Alien: Covenant virtual reality experience will take us through the Alien universe.
Alien: Covenant is getting a companion VR experience directed by Ridley Scott. Scott’s RSA Films production company is collaborating with the MPC VR production house, and Fox Innovation Lab to create the Alien: Covenant VR app. The experience is being described as “a dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe.”
Unfortunately, there’s no news on which platforms on which you can experience the Alien: Covenant VR companion. We’ll be lucky if we can get a journey as good as Alien: Isolation could have been in VR. Although early builds of Alien: Isolation were capable of VR support, the final product had the option disabled. Users of the Oculus Rift DK2 headset could enable this support again with a few minor file changes. However, the Oculus Rift CV1 makes the process buggier and harder to pull off because of deprecated runtimes used by Alien: Isolation’s VR hooks.
Hopefully Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien: Covenant VR experience can provide some of the chills that those who played Alien: Isolation reported after playing it in VR. There’s no release date yet for the Alien: Covenant VR experience, but you can expect it sometime this year.
