Doom to add back Team Deathmatch playlists after feedback
Apparently fans weren't too happy with the reduction to just Team Play and FFA Play lists.
Doom dropped a holiday surprise on fans with the game's final paid DLC Bloodfall this week, but one of the changes in the expansion didn't sit well with fans, and developer id Software is moving to rectify the issue.
As part of the pack, playlists had been cut to just two - Team Play and FFA Play - to "better aggregate players and make it faster to find a match." However, fan feedback apparently forced the dev team to rethink the move. Now, Doom will reinstitute Team Deathmatch and Deatmatch MP playlists, along with adding Team Play Mix and FFA Play Mix, id said in a tweet from the official account. The addition should happen sometime today.
The move is good news for players trying to take advantage of the extra long multiplayer XP weekend, which began early when the DLC was released on Wednesday. The extra XP will be flowing until Monday at noon ET / 9 a.m.PT as players try to hit the new max rank of Echelon 11 level 50 to unlock the new DOOM Marine Armor.

Between this and Titanfall 2 (I know no one else cares about Battleborn), I think it is fair to say that the MP evirnonment on PC is so unhealthy in shooters that it is becoming barely worth it for developers even if they want to provide long term support. Too many casino (f2p or similar) games dominating the market.

It's a cutthroat market but doom mp was Doa after the beta and the quality of the game, while OK for the console crowd did not resonate with pc players who have the option to play a blizzard backed game that is probably better than doom. It also doesn't help comparing a decade old behemoth like Battlefield to a game that while decent was a console exclusive thing (that's what it was designed for and there was its main audience, I think the vocal shack players made up 90% of its worldwide pc population). Also doesn't help to try to fuck with cod in the same release window (which did also its best to murder its own player base with two games fragmenting it).

COD is in trouble on PC too.

Take a look at this list. Yeah there are things like Overwatch and BF not on it, but it is depressing as fuck.

50k a couple hours below peak seems OK in my book (you shouldn’t have any issues finding a game?).
We know the game has sold well enough on the pc to warrant its port in this moment and historically the trend seems to be that long term pc outsells the console versions ever since bc2 (leading to dice investing in some proper pc versions).
I'm confident that the base version will also sustain that level of players (the old game still pulls 15 couple of hours below peak as you say and they are fishing in the same pool).-
Yeah, I think BF is one of them that is making it right now. But when you look at them "making it" on PC compared to the other big MP games, it is still weaker.
There's the big couple franchises and then there is everybody else. Blizzard jumped in and took a big chunk of it and other big franchises are falling out.

Because they outright cut into their own market with a double release plus the mp betas was bad and had huge issues. The beta builds had streamers who make a living of that game go on the barricades because it was so unpolished/issue prone. If you want to see what's up in the pc market look at blizzard. Good beta, single buy in package and constant support has an active player base in the millions. It's not like people don't play or pay for games.

I wish they would take Titanfall 2 MP free to play on PC. It has the micro-transaction stuff in there now, and they could still charge a premium for the single player campaign as an optional addon. The multiplayer desperately needs some new life before it's dead for good.
It's not going to happen, doesn't seem like EA's style, and I doubt Respawn would go for it, either. They seem too proud or stubborn to take it there. They're still going to provide support because of the console player base, but even there the numbers aren't sounding that great compared to other games. The whole "free dlc map" initiative sounded promising up front, but now they must have less incentive to actually waste time and resources doing a bunch of free map packs and providing content than they would if the community was larger and continually supporting the game via the in game purchases and such.
They're probably going to commit more to doing a sequel or new game instead, while keeping a skeleton crew on minor updates and rare additions to Titanfall 2 for the near future.
