The sudden decline in quality happened when the PS4 came out. Suddenly Sony was pushing PS+ titles on their new platform, which had (arguably still has) a pretty thin library of solid titles as the PS3 did. There was such a deep well to draw from when the focused console was as established as the PS3 was.

PS+ really stopped being "plus" when the PS4 came out and it was required for online gaming.
On the PS3, it really was PS+ - your data would save to your drive, you could download patches, but with PS+, it improved those things. You got cloud saves, and patches would automatically download in the middle of the night, PLUS you got a couple free games every month. Pretty cool.
Now with plus being a requirement, it should just be called PS Online or something like that.

I like VVVVVV, but it's an older game that's been widely available for cheap or free on many other platforms. Never heard of the rest.
I'm seriously considering letting my Plus subscription lapse. Between the ever-improving BC and better "Games with Gold" options on the Xbone, it's rapidly becoming my console platform of choice. -
