PSA: House of the Dying Sun, a game made by a Shacknews user, has left Early Access
Enter the 'Dragon,' version 1.0 of the popular space combat sim.
House of the Dying Sun, a game developed by Shacknews user Rampancy, has left Steam Early Access with today's release of version 1.0, titled "Dragon."
A press release issued by developer Marauder Interactive runs down new features, including Dragon Difficulty, unlocked by finishing the campaign; Interdictors, a combat unit that blocks friendly units from warping out of a region until the Interdictors are destroyed; and gameplay designed around hunting down traitorous flagships in missions.
Rampancy shared details of House of the Dying Sun's development in a Shacknews Chatty post. "I've been working on the game for about 4 years, and I got lucky in a bunch of ways because it made its money back and sold enough for me to make another game if I want to. The indie market is WAY rougher than it was in ~2008 (well before I started), so I'm not sure what'll happen. While I figure that out, I'm gonna take November off and help some friends out with their games and work on dumb prototypes of my own."
House of the Dying Sun is available on Steam for $19.99, and can be purchased for $17.99 during a limited-time promotion celebrating the release of "Dragon" version 1.0.

Yeah, this game is still one of the coolest things I've seen with my Rift. It's also the first game I ever played in modern VR and one of the reasons I was so excited to get the Rift in the first place. I played Enemy Starfighter (the super early version) at PAX East a few years ago and I lost my shit. Even on the DK1 it was a cool experience and totally sold me on VR.
Rampancy is a super cool dude too, which is completely unrelated.
