THQ Nordic acquires Delta Force, Joint Ops, other NovaLogic IPs
No word on if the company will eventually rebrand to THQ NordicLogic.
THQ Nordic is keeping itself busy in between releasing new games. In April, Nordic Games picked up many of THQ's old franchises, including Darksiders, Red Faction, Destroy All Humans and Supreme Commander. By August, it had rebranded itslef to THQ Nordic. Now, the company has taken on even more IPs and trademarks, this time from NovaLogic.
Old school gamers may remember titles such as Delta Force, Comanche and Joint Ops. The franchises have been dormant for some time, but now they belong to THQ Nordic, in addition to Armored Fist, Tachyon: The Fringe, F-22 and F-16. The company also picked up the NovaLogic trademark.
“After 30 years of creating ground breaking Computer and Video Games we are proud to pass the baton to THQ Nordic," NovaLogic CEO John Garcia said in a press release. "As individuals, they are enthusiastic gamers and as a company have shown the agility and acumen needed to propel our industry towards a much-needed reset. We are happy to see the franchises we created in such capable hands.”
“NovaLogic pioneered military simulations and military-themed multiplayer shooters with vehicular combat and also clearly targeted at an adult audience,” said Reinhard Pollice, THQ Nordic's buisness and product development director. “We are extremely satisfied with the new additions to our portfolio, and also very thrilled about how to continue some of said franchises, we are open for talks in this regard if any developer approaches us with a concept for a potential sequel to any IP.”
It will be interesting to see if any developers appraoch THQ Nordic to work on any of those franchises. Of course, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that the company could remaster some of the old classics as well. THQ Nordic has numerous unannounce titles in the works, some speculated to be remasters of older THQ games. Darksiders is already being Warmastered, and the PS2 classic Destroy All Humans has been rated for PS4 and Xbox One. A PEGI rating has also shown up for Red Faction.
