The game has been unplayable for many eager participants.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's beta preloaded yesterday in preparation for today's kickoff, but matchmaking issues have prevented many players from partaking in the weekend-long test.

"Experiencing issues with Matchmaking on the Infinite Warfare Beta? We're aware and looking into it, Stay tuned for updates," Activision tweeted from its official support account on Twitter.

Over the last decade, the terms "beta" and "demo" have been conflated to the point that many players go into betas thinking they're about to play a fully functional, bug-free product. In point of fact, developers hold betas to stress test games.

Problems like the ones plaguing Infinite Warfare's beta are to be expected, but are still disappointing for players looking forward to spending their weekend getting their feet wet in this year's iteration of Call of Duty.
