New Elder Scrolls Online update for PC lets players freely explore the world

No matter where you go, the denizens of Tamriel will scale to your level.

The latest update to Elder Scrolls Online for PC units Tamriel's realms, allowing you to freely explore anywhere you like. Introduced as "One Tamriel" at this year's E3, fusing the game's lands together comes hand-in-hand with another change: no matter where you visit, areas scale with your character.

One exception: you can't access Coldharbour until you've finished the game's main quest.

You can take advantage of One Tamriel by completing the tutorial. Once you've learned the ropes, Elder Scrolls Online cuts your apron strings and lets you roam.

The update makes a few other changes. Restrictions on alliances have been removed, so you can group with anyone you come across. That should simplify forming a party to clear out dungeons and attempt quests.

Xbox One and PS4 players can expect the free One Tamriel update to release on October 18.

Does this make the game worth getting for us SP people?

I wouldn't recommend ESO if you're looking for an experience even remotely similar to single player Elder Scrolls games. But I would recommend it if you at any point wanted to play an Elder Scrolls game online.

I feel like it will benefit ESO a lot because it will encourage higher level characters to play with lower levels and generally mix up the players a bit rather than high levels all in high level areas and low level areas practically deserted because everybody outleveled them.

Since it is an MMO there wasn't really any reason to go back to areas once you've outleveled them. It was a waste of time.

I was playing but no longer. I find the idea of scaling monsters appalling, and I still blame Grandia Extreme for legitimizing this bullshit. It's also the reason I stopped playing ES games (other than ESO) after Oblivion came out also.

Now i feel like I've just been swindled out of the money I spent on this game.

This is so depressing, and I really hope that Skywind doesn't have this "feature" either. If it does, I think then I'll be completely done with the series. It really just peaked at Morrowind. (And before the filthy casuals accuse me, I did take a crack at Skyrim, for like 20-30 hours, and I honestly didn't like it, very boring, just not fun)

I will admit that one of the Oblivion expansions was most excellent, Knights of the Nine. But I just really despised the level scaling and ultimately that turned me off from playing it further (or ever again).

i can certainly understand the hate for oblivion level scaling, but skyrims was much, much improved, and i believe had caps for most enemies. i didnt play much of morrowind, but it wasn't without it's own problems.

im not sure what you thought wasn't fun about Skyrim though, the story or combat mechanics or what?

Awesome! I feel that trivializing and rendering pointless character progression and the primary gameplay loop to be a really under utilized method of fucking up your game. This is the kind of change that takes real courage.
