Death Stranding release window narrowed down - slightly
Hideo Kojima hints at a release date sometime before 2019.
Release dates are a tricky business. You have to manage design time, publisher requirements and fan expectations before a firm date can ever be given. So we usually get vague references such at 2017, then Q1 2017, followed by some time in March, then an exact date. Kojima Productions' Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima has taken the release window reference to a new level.
“It will be out before the Olympics,” Kojima said at the Tokyo Game Show (via IGN)., “To go a little further, there is a movie called Akira, and it will be out before the year in which Akira is set.”
So let's do the math. The Olympics in Tyokyo are in 2020. An anime movie named Akira is going in 2019. So, we can probably expect Death Stranding some time in 2018. We know Sony will eventually narrow it down for us.
Death Stranding was a bit of a surprise at E3, and looks to have elements of Silent Hills, with actor Norman Reedus and a mysterious infant part of the trailer.
