Bungie is 'looking' at a Destiny patch for PS4 Pro, but won't release one anytime soon
'Not for Rise of Iron. We're all done," a developer said, leading one to believe Bungie will be all-in on Destiny 2 from here on out.
According to GameSpot editors who attended a Destiny roundtable with Bungie developers, the game will not receive a patch to upgrade visual fidelity and other features come the release of PlayStation 4 Pro this November. However, Bungie won't say never.
When one editor attending the event asked if the developer planned on a patch to upgrade Destiny on PS4, a Bungie staffer answered, "No, not for Rise of Iron. We're all done. As far as the future... We have nothing to announce today, but we'll certainly be looking at it."
Bungie's answer reinforces the reality that not all previously released PS4 games will be patched to take advantage of PS4's 4K upscaling, HDR, and other upgrades, such as running at a steady 60 frames per second. Publishers are taking upgrades on a case-by-case basis. Sony titles such as Uncharted 4 and InFamous: First Light will be patched, but not all titles will exhibit the same bells and whistles.
BioWare confirmed that Mass Effect Andromeda will run at 30 fps on PS4 and PS4 Pro, for example. On the other hand, Jonathan Blow confirmed that The Witness will hold steady at 60fps on PS4 Pro as well as implement visual upgrades such as upscaling to 4K.
Speaking to Destiny, it's possible that Bungie prefers to put all hands on deck for Destiny 2 after releasing Rise of Iron, the final Destiny expansion due out on September 20. Iron's launch trailer debut today, so check it out below to sate your hunger until next Tuesday.
