Yandere Simulator adds sanity effects to offer more brutal killing options
Who doesn't like a little variety in their murder simulators?
Everyone’s favorite indie game about murdering your Japanese high school rivals, Yandere Simulator, has been receiving a number of notable updates. The latest include being able to dismember your classmates as well as join clubs, and today, we’re learning how sanity can affect the game’s anti-hero, Yandere-chan.
In the game’s latest update, we see not only will Yandere-chan’s overall look change as her sanity level takes a hit, but her attack style, too. When her sanity is low, her attack style will be long and sadistic, while a medium sanity rating will result in a sloppy and noisy kill. A high sanity rating will result in an efficient kill.
The way Yandere Simulator handles sanity is by having Yandere-chan losing sanity as she proceeds to kill her classmates. This makes clearing out a room of people more difficult the longer the murder spree goes. Fortunately, the changes in animation should be gratifying as they become more and more vicious. Also - stealth attacks will always be quick, so a drop in sanity won’t reflect its attack animation.
The current build of Yandere Simulator features the sanity animations, although the developer doesn’t know if it should be turned on by default. To access it, players will need to go to the Light Music Club room and access the pet turtle. Once it’s accessed, you can perform a number of debug options, one of which is turning on the sanity animations.
The developer of Yandere Simulator plans on working on three possible updates for the game:
- Matchmaking
- A Rival Introduction video
- Miscellaneous tasks i.e. new inventory system, cosmetic changes to students, etc.

Kind of annoying how the dev keeps wanting to throw in a completely new combat system after countless people have told him that it is a bad idea, especially when he still hasn't finished implementing plenty of other facets of the game. Like I get he thinks the Yakuza fighting system is cool, but to be honest he could make another separate game using that combat system. Doesn't make any sense to put it into this game.
