Rocket League is getting an eight-sided, VR-themed arena
Psyonix's soccer-meets-cars hybrid sets foot in the Octagon in September.
Psyonix published a blog outlining additions and changes coming to Rocket League, not the least of which is an eight-sided arena themed after a VR space.
"The Rocket Labs playlist adds another stadium to its lineup with the debut of 'Octagon' this September! Available for both Online and Offline Exhibition play, 'Octagon' is VR-themed like other Rocket Labs Arenas, but the large, eight-sided walls are what set it apart."
Psyonix has other changes coming down the pipe. Besides a "rumble" mode where you fight other players using random power-ups, the game will receive variants of Urban Central (Dawn) and DFH Stadium (Stormy) playing offline and online, and in private, exhibition, and playlist settings.
Those maps, along with Rumble mode, will be released in Rocket League's September update.

Cool. I've wanted to see a more normal (but still different from the main type) arena like this since the game launched. When they first announced that coliseum map I thought it would be shaped like this.
Makes far more sense that goofier ones with ramps and walls and shit. It's too bad you can't choose which Rocket Labs maps you want to play. So you're at the mercy of random choice with all the other experimental maps in rotation.

It is kind of strange how they have these weird non-traditional arenas in ranked mode, when 90% of the maps are exactly the same and what people expect to play for competition.
I feel like they probably should ditch them in ranked, or make them more frequent so people can actually get better with the non-standard geometry they offer. They're too rare with all the other normal maps in the same pool.
