Report: StarCraft 1 HD releasing in September 2016
According to a new report, we could be seeing an HD version of the original StarCraft.
Blizzard Entertainment’s StarCraft series is one among many of its iconic franchises, and next month, the company appears to be announcing an HD version of its original StarCraft and releasing it the same day.
The report comes from iNews24, who says they’ve confirmed this information with multiple sources with knowledge of Blizzard’s internal plans.
StarCraft HD is expected to feature the same gameplay of the original game, but will offer improved visuals and user interface.
As for the timing of the announcement, the StarCraft II World Championship series will end next month in Mexico, so a reveal during its big event is certainly possible.
We’ve reached out to Blizzard for comment and will update our story accordingly.

As far as mechanics, they aren't drastically different - if I remember war2 right -- been a long while. Although I guess the tech tree may have felt a bit more scattered since there were multiple buildings to manage upgrades vs how war2 did it. again, if I'm remembering right. been a long time since I've played war2 or sc1.

They hired some people about a year ago to work on some of their older games, I'm guessing this is the result. They also mentioned Warcraft 3, and Diablo 2 so I'm thinking we'll see some kind of HD versions of those too.

I still haven't decided how I feel about this trend of just HDifying older games and rereleasing them. On one hand it's pretty cool because you can relive some of your favorite gaming experiences and newer generations can maybe enjoy them too, but on the other hand I think I'd rather studios devote time to new games rather than revamping ones I've already played a ton.

In a way, it's quite good. Gaming has a problem with keeping it's history available. The vast majority of films and songs have no chance of disappearing, but due to tech changes we quite frequently see old games stop working with nobody around to fix them.
These HD remake things come with compatability for modern operating systems etc. which will make it easier for the game to be preserved into the future.

Bullshit. Why would they do this? StarCraft 1 is vastly inferior to StarCraft 2, and the RTS genre isn't very popular anymore. Sure, lots of older gamers have fond memories of the StarCraft 1 campaign. It rocked back then, no question about it. But it would feel really dated if it were simply re-mastered technologically.
