Earth Defense Force 4.1 invades PC next week
Put your bug stomping shoes on. You're going to need them in EDF 4.1 next week.
D3 Publisher has announced its iconic giant bug killing simulator, Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair, will be making its way to Steam on July 18.
Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair originally released on the PlayStation 4 back in late 2015 and is essentially a remake of Earth Defense Force 2025, although a number of improvements have been made. These improvements include A.I. now being able to use vehicles, online co-op, rogue-like elements as battles will often change each time you play them, improved graphics, and more. The game will also feature full English dubbing, which is a first in the series.
Players can take the role of four different classes across over 80 missions with 800 weapons available. Yes - you read that right. You’ll have EIGHT HUNDRED WEAPONS available to kill all of the mutant bugs you want. In addition to all of these weapons, 16 DLC extras will also be made available at launch, most of them being skins and even more powerful weapons.
Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair will release on PC via Steam on July 18 and will retail for $49.99. The game will be available for 30% off during its launch.

I didn't care much for IA's grind system. 4.1 continues the tradition of the EDF2017 grind that was more based on random drops. Bosses and big enemies like hectors and giant insects generally have far less health than their IA counterparts.
By and large, I think the Japanese EDF games are more fun than IA. There's still a ton of grinding and playing the same missions over and over to grind for health or weapons.
