See 10 minutes Metroid Prime Federation Force gameplay for 3DS
The game has amiibo support as well.
We are rapidly approaching the August 19 release date for Metroid Prime: Federation Force for 3DS, and its absence from E3 and Nintendo's Treehouse presentation did raise a few eyebrows. So Nintendo Japan has obliged and released a video showing 10 minutes of gameplay for the first-person shooter. It's in Japanese, but you'll get them idea.
The video also revealed amiibo support for the game as well:
Federation Force is a Metroid Prime spinoff where players assume the role of a Galactic Federation Marine. The game will have four-player co-op and incorporates a number of co-op elements into its core gameplay, although Federation Force lacks the touch-based controls of Hunters and the scanning mechanics of the Metroid series.

Historically few people buy any kind of Metroid game. It is a sadly niche series.
Not a single game has broken 3 million sales, and only Metroid and Metroid Prime even came close.

Even Skyward Sword beats out the sales of any given Metroid game and that had extra hardware requirements.

And while it's an outlier, by itself Mario Kart Wii sold twice as many units as every Metroid combined.

At this point if Nintendo is going to continue making Metroid games, while it might upset the base a bit, they're probably wise to mix things up with lower budget outings to see what sticks.
Is Federation Force the game I was hoping for? No. Do I think coop Metroid Prime could be fun? Yeah.

At least one character/player called the camera player stupid after shooting their compatriot, it may have happened twice but I don't actually know Japanese and skipped most of the just talking bits.
I think it's largely supposed to have a funny tone with the camera player being terrible, which is why they also teach all the basics to the camera.

See the above links - as much as people like us love Metroid, the simple fact is that the games don't sell well, so no there's not "major demand". The games don't sell that well in America and don't sell at all in Japan.
It sucks but the best you can hope for is to find the best Metroid clones and support them.

I think I'm the only person who likes this one. As someone who used to read the old comics and older lore from the early 90s when the federation was more than just a mention in the games. I had always wanted to play a game where you play as the feddies. 2D or 3D. doesnt matter. This is close enough to what I thought a game with them in it would be. squad-based tactical combat.
