Rumor: Injustice: Gods Among Us 2 targeted for early 2017
The fighter could be announced before E3.
Injustice: Gods Among Us was somewhat of a surprise hit among fans and critics when it came out in 2013. So it shouldn't come as a shock that a sequel may be coming. The question is what took it so long.
A report on French gaming site Gameblog.fr (via VG 24/7) quotes unnamed sources that the sequel could be announced before E3 by publisher Warner Bros Interactive, with a target release date on March 2017. The fighting game is supposedly in development by NetherRealm, the home of Mortal Kombat, and would use the MK9 game engine. Given that Mortal Kombat X was developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, it stands to reason that NetherRealm would shoot for those platforms again with Injustice 2.
It's all speculation at this point, but with E3 coming soon, we should know more in the next week or so if this is indeed a thing.
