Hideo Kojima opens up on what he wants for his studio
The kitchen will be important
Kojima Productions hasn't revealed what its first project will be for Sony, but founder Hideo Kojima hasn't been shy about giving some details on the studio.
In a recent roundtable discussion (via GameReactor), Kojima said he wants to keep the studio somewhat small. "I'm aiming to keep the staff less than 100 people," he said through a translator. "I am searching for technology and at the same time hiring new people."
Kojima referenced his time at Konami, saying "At the time of the Metal Gear Solid the staff was over 200 people, something like this..." The translator clarified that Kojima "wants to connect to the developers directly ... So it will be around 100 people, but not more. Keep it that size."
Kojima also said that he has visited several other development studios, mentally making notes on things that are key to a good atmosphere. "I've found that at any studio the kitchen is very important," he joked. "I saw at DICE in Stockholm they had 40 microwaves, and also there's so many coffee makers, and I understood that that is very important."
While there still are few details yet on what Kojima will pursue as his first game, he has said it will be along the lines of The Division or Uncharted 4, but without being open world. “It’s an amazing game," he said at the time. "Along with the plot, characters, and game system, I’m brainstorming everything equally. Some parts are very new, so I’ll need to experiment with it.”
