Need for Speed Is Winding Down Its Free Updates As Ghost Games Focuses On Next Game
Annual franchising once again takes precedent.
Need for Speed is winding down its free updates as the developer eyes its next project. It's only been out on the market for a year, and now the upcoming SpeedList update is going to be the last bit of free content for the game as the next game comes zooming in for 2017.
Since the game made its debut last November, a glut of features and additional content have been sprinkled in here and there, and people have spent a massive amount of time with the game itself, namely earning 9.8 billion REP points, taking 35 million Snapshots, and a bevy of other interesting stats collected in an infographic you can check out below.
There's a special Community Event coming up this weekend where you can earn extra in-game credits from Drag Events and build up your decal collection by completing Daily Challenges. So there's still more to do and Ghost Games is looking for additional feedback from fans if they're willing to give it. It's just time to start working on the next game to meet the annual release schedule.
This comes as a bit of a surprise since last I spoke with executive producer Marcus Nilsson, who insinuated during an interview that this Need for Speed was to be supported for some time, with no paid DLC updates, and a "long-term business plan" for the series. But additional content has indeed been delivered, and it looks like this iteration of the series is winding to a close.
Personally, I found the latest Need for Speed to be a move in the right direction, so I'm hoping it continues down the road it's careening down. Sorry. I really love puns.
