In a dual Twitter/Instagram announcement, Destiny's creative lead CJ Cowan announced that he left the studio yesterday, April 5.

"After 13 years, I decided to part ways with Bungie yesterday," he said. Then, in reference to Bungie's logo, he pondered, "How am I just now realizing the logo is a sad face?

Cowan has ample reason to be reflective. Per his resume, he started at Bungie back in 2003 as a cinematic designer on Halo 2, then hotly anticipated for Microsoft's original Xbox. Cowan climbed the ladder from there, appointed to director of cinematics in March 2005 and presiding over Halo 3, Halo: ODST, and Halo Reach. In March 2009, Cowan stepped into the role of story/creative lead on Destiny and helped shepherd the base game and its House of Wolves and Taken King expansions to market.

Updating his current position to "Storyteller For Hire," Cowan no doubt has his eye on new and exciting ventures.
