Doom open beta dates and post launch content revealed
The hype machine continues for the release of Doom next month. Now we know what you will be getting after the game comes out.
Doom will be coming out on May 13 and Bethesda has slowly been ramping up the news for the game. The closed beta has already concluded, so its time to reveal that the open beta will start April 15 and run through April 17.
In addition, Bethesda has revealed that there will be three DLC multiplayer packs coming after release, although no dates are given except "before the end of the year." The first pack, slated for the sumer some time, will offer:
- Three new maps
- One new weapon
- One new playable demon
- One new armor set
- One new piece of equipment
- New hack modules and taunts
- New customization colors and patterns
Each DLC pack will cost $14.99, or you can drop $39.99 to get the season pass to cover all the packs. Most retailers will allow you to pre-order the pass.
Snapmap, which allows players to create their own content for Doom, will also get regular free updates including map modules; props and objects; additional features and functionality; AI enhancements; and editing tool enhancements. Bethesda also promises some free content updates as well.
Doom is being released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

im still kinda salty that they just call it "Doom". like fuck off guys, there has already been a Doom and your shitty console shooter isnt going to stack up.
its a real peeve of mine when games do that :/ just call it doom 4 for fucks sake. the only people who give a fuck about the doom name are just going to be annoyed and probably not buy this anyway, the target demo for this cares nothing about that name at all and you could have just called it "Shooter Game" and had as much cachet with them as Doom is going to get you.

I'm predicting an early death for Doom's multiplayer, at least on the PC. Console players sound to be enjoying it, which may mean that the PS4 and XBone versions manage to shift enough copies to survive the fractioning of the community that usually comes with non-cosmetic DLC in a multiplayer title.

I liked Titanfall too, I really regretted getting it on PC not console (where the interest in it lasted a lot longer than on PC). Didn't like it enough to buy it twice, when i had already spent too much for it at launch (with a fecking DLC season pass charge on top of $60) for a game with only MP, though.

you know it. it seems like it's COD-esque. $15 for 3 maps for trying to extend the multiplayer stuff. but is the core game, the single player campaign, any good? the multiplayer will be a disaster of max/min/poopsockers and lack of balance and a shit show within hours. then cheated up.
ultimately if the game is good for single player that's where my judgment for purchasing lies.

1) From what I've seen of SnapMap in the videos, there's every reason to expect it to be capable of reproducing the maps and game modes we've seen so far. It supports event triggers, path setting, timers, etc.
2) Multiplayer game developers in general have both sold expansions/DLC and made mod tools available quite frequently in the past.
3) Both id Software as a developer, and Bethesda as a publisher, have a history of both selling expansions/DLC and making mod tools available. A long history, in fact.
4) Mod tools are not a replacement for professionally crafted content. They're a supplement. For every high-quality free map (or game mode, or whatever), there will be dozens or hundreds of crap ones, and not everyone is going to want to sort through and learn them.
5) Long-term, mod tools tend to lengthen the life of a game. They get and keep people involved in the game, which extends the long tail of sales and helps maintain interest until the next iteration of the game. Id Software knows this and Bethesda knows this.
Seriously, this is dumb. Your argument is essentially that developer and publisher history, and the good reasons to include modding, and what has actually been show and described, should all be considered nonsense because of a small, dubious, short-term sales boost.

I really can't understand how they can be this stupid and miss the opportunity of making the multiplayer similar to Q3, they keep saying that they're making it fast and fun like the classic then why they stopped that with the MP !! It would have been perfect, just redo Q3 with the new engine and you'll get a winning fomrula

heh good rant. although he bitches about weapon loadouts and then turns around and bitches about the deamon pickup.
also i don't really agree with him regarding resource control being the pinnacle of competitive multiplayer. for me it was always rocket arena - perfectly even starting positions and nothing but combat to differentiate.
