Heroes of the Storm welcomes Dehaka, Lost Cavern, and Bans in today's patch
Heroes of the Storm's latest patch has just been released, and with it, players can now fight as Dehaka, duke it out in Lost Cavern, and Ban certain heroes from Ranked Play.
Blizzard has released its latest patch for Heroes of the Storm, making a new battleground, hero, and the power to ban particular Heroes from being used in draft mode.
The latest battleground to serve the Nexus is a single-lane map called Lost Cavern. Lost Cavern is HotS’ first single-lane battleground with only one objective: battle through the opposing Fort, Keep, and Core to win. Players won’t be able to use a Hearthstone nor will they be able to heal at the Hall of Storms, although healing is possible through the use of neutral Regeneration Globes that will respawn regularly throughout the game.
Dehaka the Primal Pack Leader is now available to select, which we learned is HotS’ 50th Hero. Here’s a brief look at his abilities:
Mount
- Brushstalker (Z)
- You cannot use Mounts. Instead, you may burrow to any bush or vent on the Battleground. 40 second cooldown
Trait
- Essence Collection (D)
- You collect 10 Essence per Hero Takedown, and 2 per enemy Minion killed nearby, storing up to a maximum of 50 Essence.
- Activate to consume all stored Essence and regenerate Health over the next 5 seconds for each stack consumed.
- Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.
Basic Abilities
- Drag (Q)
- Lash out with your tongue, dealing light damage to the first enemy hit, and dragging them with you for 1.75 seconds.
- Dark Swarm (W)
- Over the next three seconds, you gain the ability to move through units and deal damage in an area around yourself. Deals double damage to Heroes.
- Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.
- Burrow (E)
- Burrow into the ground, entering Stasis and becoming Invulnerable for 2 seconds.
Heroic Abilities
- Isolation (R)
- Launch biomass that deals damage, silences, and slows the first enemy Hero it hits by 30% for 3 seconds. For the next 6 seconds, the affected enemy loses sight of allied Heroes, and has greatly reduced vision.
- Adaptation (R)
- After a 5 second delay, 60% of all damage taken during this time will be returned to you as Health.
Lastly, players are now able to ban certain Heroes in draft mode for both Hero and Team League. The way bans will work is when playing Ranked games, the “Mid Ban” method can be used during drafts. Each team will have 45 seconds to ban a Hero during the first round, and 30 seconds during the second. If no hero is banned or highlighted before time expires, the ban will be skipped. But if a Hero is highlighted when the time expires, that Hero will automatically be banned.
Outside of these notable changes, Heroes of the Storm now supports most ultrawide 21:9 monitor resolutions, while a new Game Start notification option will allow the game to automatically become the focus once loading is finished and the match is about to begin.
There’s even more in the game’s official patch notes, which is always too much for us to include here. So feel free to head on over to Blizzard’s site to learn what else has been changed in Heroes of the Storm.

hmmmmm.
I like that they removed the slow effect on the dragon knight. It did feel rather counter intuitive for what was the obvious use for the ability.
But, changing overgrowth in garden of terror? ehhhh. I get that no one liked the fade attack stuff, but having it not dmg anything now? Especially the Minions and Mercenaries... Guess we'll have to see what the 100% dmg increase does for being able to plow through forts.
wow.. lots of hero changes went in. You should check the patch notes!

They are making most of their changes for the higher-end crowd. I get why, but it also starts to push against the original more casual crowd this was meant for. It's still more open than lol or dota, but the gap feels like it is closing the more they push this towards esports and bracketed play. (balance changes I mean)

They're really not.
Removing the slow effect from forts/keeps against the DK/plant isn't a change for the high end crowd. They made it a part of their strategy, while lower end players just fucked it up and wasted half of the plant/dk by being slowed. This resulted in a significant difference between a bad, decent, and good dk/plant pilot, but now the gap is a lot tighter simply because the changes helped offset the mistakes made by the lower end player.
Also, a lot of their balance changes are geared toward helping lower end players. Higher end ones learn how to play with/around various things, while lower end ones just faceroll into every situation the exact same way. Recent changes have been more in line with helping the faceroll be more successful. -
