Rumor: Nintendo's Next Generation NX Controller Allegedly Revealed in a Photo
A purportedly leaked image of the new Nintendo NX controller has hit the web.
A possible leaked image of a new Nintendo controller has hit the internet today.
From the image, which we've included below, the device appears to be an oval shaped touchscreen with two analog joysticks, a front facing camera of some sort, all with a proprietary cable attached to it. We are taking this image with an enormous grain of salt, but it would support the idea that the next generation Nintendo console will revolve around a mobile device controller. Nintendo has filed a number of patents over the years, and some journalists are using that as confirmation of the image's validity.
So, allegedly this is the NX controller. Matches the linked Nintendo owned patent. https://t.co/SzSx5IyHbp pic.twitter.com/rMCZ083mS3

The tweet above from freelance game journalist Laura Kate Dale showcases the supposed device.
There's been a lot of potential information about the NX and its features rolling around on the web throughout the past week. However, we've been pretty skeptical of it all given how easy it is to Photoshop things like this. Because of this we want to stress to our readers that there have been a number of false leaked images in the long history of Nintendo. If this turns out to be more than rumor, however, it will be interesting to see how the controller works, and learn more about it once Nintendo has a proper reveal.

Me too. This is a weird period for Nintendo.
This Iwata tribute from last night's Game Developer's Choice Awards really hit me hard.

I want Nintendo to make it, but this is an extremely crucial period in its long history. -

The tablet is awful, and Mario Maker is the only game on the system that justifies it. Rayman Legends plays excellently with a normal controller, and Splatoon would as well. Nintendo made literally one real game that justifies the controllers existence. ONE.
An Nintendo's OS tablet UI/UX is beyond hilarious. They still draw scroll bars and intend you to use them, on a touch input device. Nintendo had no fucking clue what to do with that machine, and it is so painfully clear. And Mario Maker could have just as easily been a DS title, and honestly, the "hey i made this, look at it!" social aspect would work 1000% better on a handheld in the school-yard.-
I absolutely disagree with you except for one point.
"Rayman Legends plays excellently with a normal controller "
Its not the same. Co-op mode with the gamepad is head and shoulders above the other versions. Wii U has the best version of the game, no question.
"Splatoon would as well"
Nope. Touching the minimap for fast travel is great. Gyro aiming is the best I've seen for a console game, much closer in speed and accuracy to a mouse and keyboard than awful terrible thumbsticks. I'm glad that the Steam controller supports gyro aiming, unfortunately there's a lot of custom tuning required while Splatoon is tuned right out of the gate.
"Nintendo made literally one real game that justifies the controllers existence. ONE."
They didn't make enough games but they made more than one. The best game using the gamepad is the one you didn't mention, and that's Nintendo Land, not Mario Maker. That thing showed SO much potential and developers just didn't follow its lead. Thankfully that same team went on to make Splatoon. Its a much more straightforward game than Nintendo Land but they showed that they're one of the few EAD teams that really understood it.
"An Nintendo's OS tablet UI/UX is beyond hilarious. They still draw scroll bars and intend you to use them, on a touch input device."
There is no scroll bar. The dots at the top are there to show which page you're on but they're obviously too small a target to be used.
Its almost exactly like the iPad UI. You swipe, hit the arrow buttons, or push the triggers to change pages. It is easily customizable, you can put launch icons and folders anywhere. Its the most like iOS or Android, very simple! After the six-month patch fixed performance issues and added folders it became my favorite of the console UIs. Its fast and it gets me to my games quickly. My only complaint is that friends is a separate app, otherwise its terrific.
The PS4 interface is also great. The library button is my only beef, but for recently used games it works fine. If it was as customizable as the Wii U's menu system that would fix all my issues, that and allowing the touchpad and triggers for navigation. The XBox One UI is a complete fucking disaster that needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt from the ground up. That thing is an actual disaster.
I usually agree with you but I think you're completely off base here. The UI and the games that used the gamepad well justify it. This is before we get into the ergonomics and physical components being as good as they are (thumbstick, buttons, etc). The only controller I'd put above the Wii U gamepad and the Pro Controller is the XB1 Elite. Its maybe the only good thing to come out of MS this console cycle, but man is that thing terrific.-
Ooof, fell asleep. Yeah I normally agree with you on a lot of stuff but we see this pretty differently.
A few points:
My primary argument is that removing the touchscreen does not fundamentally harm any of the games made for the Wii-U, save for Mario Maker, and apparently Nintendo Land which I haven't played. Rayman Legends is a wonderful title and while a small feature in a handful of levels was reworked, the game as a whole is unchanged. Splatoon could easily be played with a DualShock 4 with tilt-aiming, and touching the pad could bring up a transparent overlay of the map that you could swipe over and then tap your desired location. Again, this doesn't fundamentally change the game, and again, makes the giant tablet controller just... not a fundamental aspect of using the system.
My secondary arguments are mostly that as a tablet, the Wii-U is bargain-basement-Android levels of quality, can only track a single input at a time, and yes, go into the Nintendo Store and just look at that God-awful UI. They still have scroll bars.
Everything about the WiiU screams "we didn't really know what we wanted next so we took a guess and it didn't really work out, but hey, here's Mario Maker!"
Nintendo is probably my favorite game-maker on the planet, but has become probably my most hated game-platform-maker. :(

The person who made this didn't notice them in the original picture (top part):
http://www.patentbuddy.com/abstractimage?patentNo=20150355768&kindCode=A1&country=US
But there's clearly grips and something on the back that protrudes outward. Whoever made this missed all of that which is why the controller is flat on a table without grips. See the bottom part of the image for the full picture of the patent with the hand dotted over it.

Thanks for posting, there is like no NX info :(, so this is something.
Personally I don't give a shit about the controller to be harsh toward Nintendo, make sure the freaking guts of the hardware are solid and can last that is all they have to do this round the rest will follow. If only they would just focus on this issue this round.
If N makes sure the NX guts aka main hardware(GPU, CPU, Mem) is solid it will be a big success.
I still think the XB1 controller is #1 it the best ever made. Yet the PS4 is out selling the XB1 like crazy, its not all about the controller it never has been. I am not sure why Nintendo are so fixated on the controller?
And lets be honest if the Wii U just came with two pro controllers instead of the pad it would of been way better off. The money saved could of gone into the Wii U's guts instead and things would of turned out differently.
Man I really hope the NX is going to own :( E3 2016 = "judgement Day 4 Nintendo" , man if both MS and S announce v2 refreshes of their systems @E3 2016 that could be the end for N. The fear is real :(
I just don't know anymore, I am juts going to wait for E3 do or die
