Heroes of the Storm video spotlights Xul and his command of the dead

There are no Heroes, only Xul!

When it comes to powerful necromancers in the Diablo world, few are better than Xul. Now he's taking his scythe and jumping into Heroes of the Storm, with Blizzard offering an overview of what he'll bring to the table.

Xul will not come to battle alone, thanks to his trait, Raise Skeleton. This allows the necromancer to call up the dead to do his bidding, calling up a new servant for every enemy minion he kills. Here are his other abilities:

  • (Q) Spectral Scythe - It takes a moment to start up, but Xul charges up his scythe and tosses it forward, like a boomerang. It will deal moderate damage to foes that get caught on its way up and on its way back.
  • (W) Cursed Strikes - This allows Xul to charge up his melee weapon, granting him area-of-effect damage on basic attacks for a short period. Any enemy hero hit will see their attack speed slowed.
  • (E) Bone Prison - This is another slow startup attack, but when it starts up, Xul summons a bone prison from underneath a target. The affected foe will be stopped for a brief period, setting that enemy up for a barrage of attacks from teammates.
  • (1) Bone Armor - This is a unique fourth ability for Xul, one that surrounds him with a shield. Upon reaching a level one talent during any session, the player will select whether Bone Armor can deal damage, slow down enemies, or allow Xul to evade basic attacks.
  • (R1) Poison Nova - This Heroic ability takes a moment to start up, but then Xul will unleash waves of poison projectiles that will stretch a significant distance. Any target hit will suffer significant poison damage for a prolonged period.
  • (R2) Skeletal Mages - Xul's other Heroic ability summons a foursome of undead wizards. They'll pop up in a straight line and fire on enemies, causing damage and slowness to anyone hit.

No word on when Xul will be made available, but expect him to hit the PTR and public servers soon. It'll likely be the same time that Blizzard introduces expanded observer slots and some addition UI changes, as detailed yesterday on Battle.net. For more on Xul, check out the video below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
