Over in Japan, the Nico Nico Takaigi Pokken Tournament competition just wrapped up. Following the finals, Pokken Tournament/Tekken franchise creator Katsuhirio Harada and Masaaki Hoshino offered the captive audience a special surprise in the form of the game's newest character. And it's the most bizarre entry to date, as it's the chandelier-looking Fire/Ghost-type, Chandelure.

Kotaku first deduced this reveal a couple of weeks ago, but it became official earlier today. Harada offered up the reveal and the new trailer (courtesy of Shoryuken), which shows its bizarre attack patterns. As a Fire-type, Chandelure can dole out fire damage, while using its unique shape to strike with four appendages and with cartwheels. It can also use Minimize to evade an opponent's strikes.

Chandelure is set to hit the arcade version of Pokken Tournament on February 9. It'll also be ready for the full version of the game that's set to hit Wii U on March 18.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
