It appeared that Valve would not have a formal Scream Fortress update for Team Fortress 2 this year, but the mischievous Merasmus has deceived everyone!

Are you staying in this Halloween to help give out candy to the trick-or-treaters of the neighborhood? If so, you'll probably be looking for some games to help pass the time. Shacknews is going to take today to offer up a few suggestions, starting off with one that we didn't quite expect to see: Team Fortress 2's annual Scream Fortress.

Readers are probably asking, "But Ozzie, I thought Valve said they were definitely not doing a Scream Fortress this year." Plans have apparently changed, with this year's Halloween-themed update featuring four community maps redesigned with the holiday in mind. Players also have a chance to earn previous Halloween items they might have missed by completing Merasmissions, which requires completing a few tasks for the spirit of the sorcerer.

And of course, as promised, all of the previous Scream Fortress maps are back in the rotation, as well. The news hit earlier this week, just as Mannpower Mode finally came out of beta. There's still about a week left to enjoy Scream Fortress, so jump in while you can.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
