Super Mario Maker receives mid-level checkpoints and more next week
Nintendo has announced a free software update for Super Mario Maker that will offer mid-level checkpoints and sections to help discover even more noteworthy levels.
Nintendo has announced Super Mario Maker will be receiving an update next week that will offer the ability to add mid-level checkpoints to levels as well as the addition of Course World categories. Course World categories will highlight new levels from Nintendo and partner creators outside of the company.
Having mid-level checkpoints will now give users the ability to add flags throughout their levels, which will allow players to start at the selected point if they lose a life. Mid-level checkpoints can be added to previously-created levels, or can be used for completely new ones. You can create a checkpoint by shaking an arrow sign item from the course parts palette.
Another notable part of this update is the inclusion of Event Courses within the game’s Course World online hub. The levels of partner creators outside of Nintendo will be featured here, with the first Event Course being “Ship Love,” which was the winning level from Facebook’s hackathon event. New Event Courses will be added on an ongoing basis, some of which may feature new Mystery Mushroom transformations.
In addition to the Event Courses section, an Official Makers section will also be added after the update is installed, which will offer specially selected courses, some of which coming straight from Nintendo.
The free software update will go live on November 4.
