Weekend PC download deals: Rockstar Games, free Dawn of War Steam weekend, and more

Rockstar Games wants to make sure its games are in players' hands, which is why they appear to be on sale just about everywhere this weekend. Plus, Steam is offering up a healthy mix of great games, headlined by a free weekend for the Dawn of War franchise.

Rockstar wasn't shy about putting Grand Theft Auto on sale last week in the console space, but now the publisher looks to be putting it up at just about every major PC digital retailer out there. So find deals on Rockstar Games over on Green Man Gaming, Amazon, Direct2Drive, GamersGate, the Humble Store, and more. Steam is not taking a part in a Rockstar Games sale, but it has plenty of other stuff to offer, including a free Dawn of War weekend, the Stardock catalog, Deadpool, Borderlands, H1Z1, and more. Check out the full list of deals below.

Here's our selection of this weekend's PC deals:

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

If you don't own the Dawn of War or Dawn of War II games and enjoy RTS but don't buy them at these prices then you are dumb.

I'm even dumber, I bought them both in a Relic Humble Bundle and I've not even got round to downloading either of them!

They're different from each other but both very good. It's similar to the difference between Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3, but even more so. DoW is a traditional "build base > amass army > tidal wave the enemy" game while DoW2 is more like a MOBA where you also decide what creeps to build and what they should attack. In DoW2's SP you rarely (if ever?) control more than 4 characters and there's a lot of RPG-style progression, it was really very cool and I still want a DoW3 that goes further down that route.

I meant to say that the MOBA comparison is for DoW2's multi.
