Shack Reels: Shack's Arcade Corner: TRON

It's the arcade that became a legend on the big screen: the original TRON.

This week, we take a look back at TRON. Virtual life, and movie/game collaborations, both take shape in this early 80s era arcade game.

Yeah I played this shit out of this game as a kid. The difficulty ramps up pretty quick. It is VERY hard to find a working cabinet of this game. Even Funspot in NH has one that works intermittently. Also, emulation of this game is kinda wonky without the same arcade disc controller. One other thing - There were several Intellivision TRON games - Deadly Discs, Maze-A-Tron and Solar Sailer. Deadly Discs was AMAZING when it was released.

Tron Deadly Discs on the Intellivision is still one of my favorite games.

Awesome Greg, loved it, great video I dig the movie clip dub ins again that works so great.

Cool game the joystick was ace best part of the cabinet. I like the cycle part, I used to play that on those old Macintosh Classic that schools had in computer class I loved playing that with my buddies(was a clone but you could drop a single block).

Huh what the hell the movie was based on the game , shit I didn't know that either very cool, huh crazy G.I. Joe :) good one.

Dig Dug! a classic good choice man, Greg's kicking it old school nice.

I was kind of bummed you didn't fix the video after my posts on Twitter. lol

Discs of Tron doesn't share anything with the first game other than the control scheme. The first game's mini games aren't present in DoT.

Crazy that the arcade game made more than the movie did at the time.

Yeah that's shocking news. Great game, though. I'm kind of bummed they're kind of rare. I'll own one someday.
