For some, the passion for music and plastic instruments never went away. Harmonix is looking for those people to be a part of the Rock Band Road Crew.

Harmonix is hoping that Rock Band 4 will help reignite the gaming world's fire for music games. However, the developer is well aware that there are people out there whose fire for the genre never died. Harmonix is reaching out to those people today with a new initiative called the Rock Band Road Crew.

"Fans who are 18 and older and from the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and Canada can apply to become a Member of the Rock Band Road Crew right now by completing an application and submitting a video," explains the Harmonix blog. "Accepted Members will be able to participate in challenges, called Gigs, which range anywhere from posting about Rock Bandto playing Rock Band with friends and family! Members will complete these Gigs to earn points that they can then redeem for rewards."

These Rock Band super fans can earn gift cards and free Rock Band DLC, as well as tools to help promote their own Rock Band Nights. Anyone selected to be a Road Crew member will also receive a full Rock Band 4 band bundle.

Applications will be taken until September 13. More information can be found on the main Road Crew page.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I think this game genre has come and gone. I''ll be surprised if it makes a come back.

There are loads of people who still love Rock Band. Also, there are a shit-ton of people who haven't played these games that much, either. In fact, I have a bunch of younger friends that were abso-fucking-lutely ga-ga over Rock Band 3 when I introduced them to it a few months ago.

I think the genre has lots of legs remaining.
