All major city construction happens overnight. Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order know this full well, as they prepare to release Cities: Skylines' first expansion, "After Dark." The new add-on content now has a release date and will arrive on September 24.

After Dark will add a new day/night cycle, as well as additional services only available during evening hours. This is also expected to open up some new modding possibilities, of which there are already many. It's also set to add a few more changes, not all of which are happy and cheerful.

"One big change during night is that crime increases," lead designer Karoliina Korppoo explained on the Paradox forums. "With the cover of the night criminals are more active and more police are needed to keep the city safe. This can easily be done with the night time budget: raising the budget allows police stations to have more vehicles in use and thus they can work more efficiently."

The After Dark expansion will be available to all current owners of Cities: Skylines for $14.99.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
