ARK: Survival Evolved update monkeys around with Gigantopithecus and adds scuba gear
Trying to survive dinosaurs can be hard enough, but now ARK: Survival Evolved is adding giant apes to the equation with today's update.
ARK: Survival Evolved has been a harrowing experience for humans, as they continue to try and survive in a world filled with dinosaurs. And while there's more than enough out in the world that's ready to kill you, Studio Wildcard is adding yet another dangerour creature to the world: a massive ape called Gigantopithecus.
Gigantopithecus can be a docile creature, often minding its own business. In fact, it can actually be tamed through non-violent means by feeding it. (Maybe not bananas, necessarily, but that couldn't hurt.) Players that successfully tame the Gigantopithecus can then ride the hairy ape across the world and use its brute strength to hurl them over barricades and walls. That's all assuming you tame it, of course. Make it angry and... well... things will not end well.
Today's new update also adds underwater exploration with the new "SCUBA" gear. This allows players to further explore the ocean with greater movement and vision. Players can also stay submerged longer without having to worry about drowning.
ARK: Survival Evolved continues to shoot for a June 2016 release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game is currently available on Steam Early Access. For more on Gigantopithecus, check out the trailer below.
