Galak-Z defends the universe with Mech Mode
Survival can be difficult in the upcoming Galak-Z. Good thing players will be able to turn their ship into a big honkin' mech.
Among the first impressions that one would get from playing 17-Bit's roguelike space shooter, Galak-Z, would be, "Gee, that pilot looks like someone out of the Voltron Force." That makes sense, given that the indie developer is shooting for an 80s anime aesthetic, but as it turns out, this observation hits the nail on the head more than anyone thought. That's because today, 17-Bit confirmed that Galak-Z would feature a Mech Mode that would allow players to take control of a Defender of the Universe-like robot.
"The Mech mode is a whole new way to play Galak-Z," senior producer Raj Joshi explained on PlayStation.Blog. "Get up in an enemy's face, slice him in two with your sword, or grab him with your extending arm, smash his guts, then throw his scrapped remains into an oncoming bad guy for a double-explosion fireworks show."
Players will be able to switch between Ship Mode and Mech Mode at will, turning their vessel into a massive mech of destruction. The mech can dispatch enemies with a powerful sword or toss hazardous parts of the environment at them. If enemies try and take advantage of the numbers game, the mech can use a Direction Shield to deflect attacks.
This is the biggest Galak-Z reveal to date and it comes just weeks before it's set to launch. Galak-Z will hit PlayStation 4 on August 4.
