Pac-Man Championship Edition DX munches onto mobile devices today

The techno-riffic Pac-Man Championship Edition DX continues the Pac-Man 35 anniversary celebration by making its way onto iOS and Android.

Bandai Namco continues to celebrate Pac-Man's 35th anniversary with new ways to consume him. The latest sees the re-imagined classic game, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, make its debut on mobile devices.

The game will include the five modes, ten zone layouts, and 132 stages that are featured in the console version. More astute Pac-enthusiasts (particularly those over at Touch Arcade) may have noticed that this is the same free-to-play game released in certain regions. However, this premium version goes a more traditional route and completely dumps the egregious in-app purchases contained in that previous version.

Those looking for portable munching will be able to pick up Pac-Man Championship Edition DX right now over on the App Store and Google Play store.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Man, this would be a nightmare to control at higher speeds on a phone's touchscreen

Eh, not sure. The classic version of Pacman they released a while ago worked pretty well - the joystick 'locked' in position and you swiped to change direction. I was able to do pretty well with it.

that may be so, but this is not classic pac-man.

Oh, I'm a huge fan of CE, I'm quite familiar with the game and its speed. Obviously it's not going to be as good as a stick, I'm just not convinced it'll be a total failure.

I have the original Pac-Man: CE for iPhone and yeah, when it speeds up it's unplayable.

Regular Pac-Man, for sure. It never really gets to the absolutely insane speeds this DX game (which is fantastic on the old consoles and Steam) does.
