Insomniac founder discusses Edge of Nowhere and the move to virtual reality
There weren't a lot of details released about Edge of Nowhere when it was first announced, so Shacknews spoke to Insomniac founder and CEO Ted Price to learn more about the studio's first virtual reality game.
One of the most surprising items to emerge from Oculus' E3 2015 presentation (aside from its collaboration with Microsoft) was a VR project being led by the folks at Insomniac Games. Edge of Nowhere takes players on a virtual adventure across a frozen wasteland. Details beyond that were sparse, so Shacknews took some time to speak to Insomniac's Ted Price.
"Our creative director, Brian Allgeier, is a big Lovecraftian fan," Price explains to Shacknews' John Gaudiosi. "We were inspired by one of Lovecraft's works in particular and wanted to make something that had that sense of isolation, and mystery, and was set in an environment that promoted heights and interesting things to look at. It's in Antarctica with that surreal horror vibe."
Price explains that players are searching for a missing expedition, with more twisted and surreal visuals emerging as they venture deeper into the Antarctic. Price also goes on to describe how Insomniac is embracing the challenges of developing for virtual reality for the first time, discussing some of the changes in their usual design approach for Edge of Nowhere.
