Batman: Arkham Knight PC will require 'significant' work; first patch released
The PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight received a patch over the weekend, although it's going to take some "significant" work to get it where it needs to be.
Batman: Arkham Knight may not have had the smoothest launch on PC, but Rocksteady and NVIDIA are working together to help give the platform the game it deserves. You know things are bad when the game’s publisher decides to suspend sales until its many issues are addressed, but it appears it’s going to take some time for that to happen.
WB Games’ lead community admin Yorick published an update on its official forums saying Rocksteady is leading its team of developers and partners as they work on the PC performance issues many users have been experiencing. Yorick admits the work is “signficant” and will take some time to ensure the right fixes are in place.
Yorick outlined key areas Rocksteady is dedicating resources to help improve the experience of the PC version:
- Support for frame rates above 30FPS in the graphics settings menu
- Fix for low resolution texture bug
- Improve overall performance and framerate hitches
- Add more options to the graphics settings menu
- Improvements to hard drive streaming and hitches
- Address full screen rendering bug on gaming laptop
- Improvements to system memory and VRAM usage
- NVIDIA SLI bug fixes
- Enabling AMD Crossfire
- NVIDIA and AMD updated drivers
While work is being done to improve the performance of Arkham Knight, interim patches will be made available to address issues for those who are currently playing the game on PC. The first patch was released over the weekend and includes the following improvements:
- Fixed a crash that was happening for some users when exiting the game
- Fixed a bug which disabled rain effects and ambient occlusion. We are actively looking into fixing other bugs to improve this further
- Corrected an issue that was causing Steam to re-download the game when verifying the integrity of the game cache through the Steam client
- Fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when turning off Motion Blur in BmSystemSettings.ini. A future patch will enable this in the graphics settings menu

Pretty much. Unless they can get it into shape before the end of the summer, doubtful, then it'll be put on my wishlist for the next Steam sale.
This is a shame since it'll fracture the player experience base. Console gamer will talk about it now, and those of us waiting for it to get fixed might try to talk about it later in the year.

I'm still flabbergasted that they shoved the PC version out the door. They should have delayed it for another month or two. Consumers would have hemmed and hawed, but PC versions being held back isn't exactly newsworthy.
Rocksteady, WB, and Iron Galaxy could have teamed up to out out all the fires, released a game that was stable, gorgeous, and fun all at the same time, and PC players would have waited (im)patiently, as they are used to doing because they always end up with the superior version in the end. No studio's reputation would have suffered, no customers would feel burned, a stellar finale to a stellar franchise wouldn't have a tarnished status--everyone would be happy.
Instead, some conglomerate of executives (or perhaps developers) thought only of money and rushed a broken product to market. Thank goodness for Valve's new refund system. Imagine if it had been in place prior to the launch of MKX on PC. WB could be reeling from a major one-two punch of mass refunds.
I hope this sad state of affairs serves as a lesson to publishers: deliver stable games, or you will lose a lot of money and good standing.-
Yeah honestly I was surprised when they said it was shipping day and date with the console versions. I'm so used to PC ports getting pushed back that I was expecting it to be the case here as well. If this is the reason why most PC ports are held back, then more power to them.
Haha honestly, next time someone bitches about a PC release being deayed, I completely give the publisher permission to reference The Arkham Knight Incident.
