Blizzard has announced it will be holding the first-ever global tournament series for Heroes of the Storm at Blizzon 2015 with over $1.2m in cash and prizes up for grabs.

The Heroes of the Storm tournament will feature regional championship tournaments for the Americas, Europe, China, Korea, and Taiwan regions. The top eight teams will duke it out at the Heroes of the Storm World Championship at BlizzCon on November 6 - 7 in Anaheim, California. A total prize pool of over $1.2 million in cash and prizes, including $500,000 at BlizzCon. The team that wins the tournament will receive $200,000, as well as bragging rights as being the best Heroes of the Storm players in the world.

"We're excited to kick off the inaugural Heroes of the Storm tournament series, and we can't wait to see the best teams start to distinguish themselves in battle," said CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment Mike Morhaime."With the world championships for StarCraft II, World of Warcraft Arena, Hearthstone, and now Heroes of the Storm underway, 2015 is shaping up to be a great year for eSports fans."

The Road to BlizzCon will kick off later this month with tournaments going on in China, the Americas, Europe, Korea, and Taiwan. Details on how to sign up can be found on the official Heroes of the Storm website.

Blizzard has been a huge supporter of the eSports scene as nearly all of their games have been featured in some capacity in the majority of competitions over the years. Considering just how popular MOBAs have become over the years, it makes absolute sense for it to launch a Heroes of the Storm competition at BlizzCon.
