Star Wars Battle Pod developers discuss bringing pods to arcades
Arcades have received a new Star Wars experience over the last six months. It's Star Wars Battle Pod and our own John Gaudiosi had a chance to talk to the game's developers about bringing Star Wars back to arcades.
Not everybody has been able to hit their local Dave & Busters or similar family establishments, so it's likely that not everyone has seen the latest Star Wars game to hit the arcade scene. Star Wars Battle Pod, from Bandai Namco, was first unveiled late last year and released in arcades shortly afterwards. The cabinet then made its way to last weekend's Star Wars Celebration, where our own John Gaudiosi had the opportunity to talk to some of its developers.
Star Wars Battle Pod puts players into an actual pod and sends them on classic Star Wars missions. A spherical screen is contained within the pod, creating a full sense of immersion before sending players through the Battle of Yavin and the Death Star run, Hoth, Endor, the 2nd Death Star run, and Vader's Revenge. The left hand acts as the throttle and brake, while the right hand is used as the trigger.
To learn more about the game, check out John's full interview with the developers below. We've also included the official trailer. Star Wars Battle Pod is out now at an arcade near you.

I played it about 6 weeks ago,and I thought it was awesome.I played the Hoth level, and for a machine that doesn't move at all, unlike the old Space Harrier and Top Gun games,it really give you a sense of motion. My head was spinning a few times, which surprised the hell out of me.
I will say though,it isn't for taller players.I'm 6'1" and it's not easy to get into.I couldn't even imagine being 6'4" trying to squeeze into the pod.
Overall,it's fun even if it's designed to make sure that you only play for about 3~4 minutes before have to feed it more money.
