7th Annual Gamers for Giving Event Raises the Bar February 21-22
Gamers Outreach annual charity fundraiser looks to gather $25,000 for sick children around the country this weekend, February 21st and 22nd.
The 7th annual Gamers for Giving event is scheduled to take place at Eastern Michigan University on February 21st and 22nd. The 7 year running charity event raised over $20,000 last year, and is looking to raise over $25,000 this year.
Building off the belief that all children deserve to play and socialize regardless of any illnesses or medical status, all proceeds from the event will continue to fuel the development of Gamers Outreach Karts (or “Go Karts”). These “Go Karts” are mobile gaming stations which include a monitor, Xbox console, and Astro Gaming headset, and are designed to give children some form of familiarity in an unfamiliar and scary place.
This year’s event features appearances from eSports stars Rachel “Seltzer” Quirico, Alex “Axeltoss” Rodriguez, Scott “SirScoots” Smith, Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez, Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky, and Dave “Walshy” Walsh; as well as appearances from celebrity cosplayers Lindsay Elyse and Michelle “Missyeru” D’Antonio.
Games featured this year include Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Halo 2: Anniversary, Peggle, Super Smash Brothers, and PC titles like Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and even Starcraft.
The event is open to the public, and participants can register at GamersForGiving.org, however, it should be noted that the LAN Party and Halo 2: Anniversary competition events have already sold out.
For anyone wanting to witness the event live it will be hosted in the Grand Ballroom of the Student Center at Eastern Michigan University and is free to all spectators. The event will also be broadcast live over on the Gamers Outreach Twitch page.
