Killer Instinct unveils war golem Aganos for next 2.4 update

Killer Instinct's 2.4 update isn't coming for another couple of weeks, but Iron Galaxy has unveiled the game's next character: the massive war golem Aganos.

Killer Instinct fans that watched last month's trailer for the shadowy Omen noticed the latest character tease at the very end. It was for what this writer crudely referred to as a "huge rock guy." Well, that character has a name and it's definitely not "huge rock guy." His name is Aganos, the mighty war golem, and Iron Galaxy is set to debut him in the game's upcoming 2.4 update.

The official Killer Instinct forums offer the massive golem's backstory. Aganos is the last of his kind, animated by ancient artisans for battle. Generations died out, but the golem remained standing, sharpened by its many battles. One day, a king beckoned Aganos with a single command: to learn and think for itself. Aganos served the king out of gratitude and quickly found himself in a centuries-long war with the mummy Kan-Ra, a conflict that persists to this day.

Standing over eight feet tall, Aganos is Killer Instinct's biggest character to date. The golem will have a repenishable resource that can be used for projectiles, armor, or even walls, which can be used to change the stage boundaries. His speed and agility will depend on how much of that resource he carries, requiring players to think about resource management as they fight. His stage will be called the Forgotten Grotto, a level set in outdoor ruins with a lush Greek-like backdrop. The Forgotten Grotto will be the next stage to feature a Stage Ultra.

The upcoming 2.4 update is also set to up the character level cap to 50, allowing for more unlockable skins and colors. A character's Color 9 will only be unlockable by leveling a character all the way up to 50 and cannot be purchased with KI Gold. Also, look for a few minor additions, such as Riptor's blood going back to its normal purple.

But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
