Dying Light PC patch 1.2.1 restricting mods
It appears the latest patch for the PC version of Dying Light isn't playing nice with mods.
A new patch for Dying Light was released last last week that appears to be making things rather difficult for the modding community.
Update 1.2.1 was released in order to prevent players from changing the game’s data files, thus cutting down on possible exploits and cheats, but this change appears to be affecting the modding community as well as a number of popular mods for the game are reportedly encountering problems after the patch. Considering Techland’s previous “kill every zombie you see” game, Dead Island, was extremely mod friendly, this move doesn’t seem to fit the developer’s previous track record.
We have reached out to both Techland and Warner Bros. to clarify what exactly is going on with the latest update. Hopefully this turns out to be just one big mistake as I’m sure the modding community is already cooking up some great mods for Dying Light.

That was categorically denied by both Techland and Valve. VAC is usually only enabled for games with competitive multilayer anyway, and DI didn't have that.
Anyway, I've run (and created) quite a few mods for both DI games and my account is still in good standing, so I wouldn't worry at all. Frankly, the game needs a few mods and tweaks just to be playable, not the least being a fix for the strafe speed being only 70% of your forward speed. While I understand that's how it would work in real life more or less, it goes completely counter to decades of established FPS mechanics

"With the recent patch (1.2.1) on Steam we blocked cheating to make sure the game's PvP system (Be The Zombie) would not be abused. This, however, had the side-effect of hindering mod-makers from making changes to the game."
"Creating obstacles for modders has never been our intention. We are now working on a quick patch that will re-enable common tweaks while stopping cheating in the game’s multiplayer mode."
"At Techland, we have always supported the mod community, and loved seeing how our own game can be changed by the players. A big part of the original Dead Island's success was the passion and creativity of mod-makers from our community. We want the same for Dying Light."
